Is the modern diet putting your health in danger?

Alarming evidence have shown that major chronic diseases such as cancer, diabetes, heart disease, hardening of the arteries and stroke are on the rise. Several causes have been attributed to this health problem, one of which is the modern diet. Undoubtedly, diet have changed over time, with the modern diet getting more processed, refined, sugary, fatty, salty, and the list goes on.

Many people have turned to high calorie and fast foods like burgers, pizza, fried foods, bacon, sausages, for the sake of convenience, taste, social status, among others. There is also the issue of increased consumption of red meat and other animal products while decreasing the recommended daily physical activities that the body requires. Such practices have increased the risk of debilitating health conditions and death. Health experts will tell you that calories taken in should balance calories used in order to maintain healthy bodies.

There is, therefore a need to reconsider what we eat if want are to protect health and /or maintain heathy lifestyle. Instead of the unhealthy diets like fatty, highly processed and refined foods, sugary drinks, red meats, we need to eat more vegetables, fruits, plant proteins, legumes, seeds, nuts, and white meat.
